How Long Will the Treatment Last?

Why aesthetic results vary from person to person — and why choosing the right product may be worth a little extra.

"How long will my treatment last?"

This is probably one of the most common questions clients ask me during an aesthetic consultation.

And understandably so.

When you invest in an aesthetic treatment, you want to enjoy your results for as long as possible. You want to feel confident that you've made the right choice and that your treatment offers good value.

But here's something many clients don't realise.

Two people can have exactly the same treatment, using the same product, and experience very different results.

And equally important, not all products are created in the same way.

So, if longer-lasting results are important to you, it's worth understanding what can influence them — and why sometimes investing just a little more in a premium formulation may be worth considering.

1. Why Do Aesthetic Treatments Last Longer for Some People?

We are all different.

Our skin, facial anatomy, tissue characteristics and individual biological responses vary.

This means that even when two people receive the same amount of the same dermal filler, their results may not look identical or remain noticeable for the same length of time.

Several factors can influence treatment longevity:

Individual biology: Our bodies process hyaluronic acid differently, and individual tissue characteristics can affect the appearance and persistence of results.

Treatment area: The lips are constantly moving when we speak, smile and eat. Filler in this area may behave differently from filler placed in the cheeks or chin.

Age and skin condition: Skin elasticity, tissue structure and existing volume can influence the visible outcome.

Previous treatments: Residual filler and earlier procedures may affect how a new treatment is planned.

Product formulation: Different fillers have different physical properties and expected durations.

Practitioner technique: Appropriate product selection, placement and treatment planning all matter.

There is no reliable way to promise that a particular filler will last exactly six, nine or twelve months for every individual.

But understanding these differences helps us make more informed treatment choices.

2. Not All Dermal Fillers Are the Same

Although many dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, they are not identical.

Manufacturers use different technologies to influence how their products behave within the tissues.

Some formulations are designed to provide structural support, while others have characteristics suited to softer, more mobile areas such as the lips.

Differences in crosslinking, gel structure, flexibility and other properties can influence how a filler performs.

This is one reason established aesthetic manufacturers offer several products within their ranges.

The right product depends on what we're trying to achieve.

For example, a formulation selected for subtle lip enhancement may differ from one used to improve chin projection.

And when longevity is a priority, it makes sense to consider products with relevant clinical evidence and manufacturer information about their expected duration.

The product inside the syringe matters — even when two treatments appear similar on a price list.

3. Is a Premium Product Worth the Extra Investment?

This is where I encourage clients to think about value rather than simply comparing the initial price.

At Aesthetic Boutique, I offer different lip filler options to suit individual needs and preferences.

Let's compare two examples:

Lip Enhancement — 1ml: £140

An option for clients seeking lip enhancement with an appropriately selected hyaluronic acid filler.

Teoxane RHA Kiss — 0.7ml: £170

A premium hyaluronic acid formulation developed specifically for lip treatment, with properties designed to suit the natural movement of the lips.

The difference in price? Just £30.

When we see £140 and £170 side by side, it's natural to consider the more affordable option.

But before deciding, I encourage clients to think about what they actually want from their treatment.

Is the priority maximum volume?

A softer, more subtle enhancement?

A particular look and feel?

Or are you especially interested in a product with different characteristics and expected longevity?

Teoxane provides an estimated product duration of 12–18 months for RHA Kiss, although this is not a guarantee of how long an individual's visible lip enhancement will last.

The £140 option may also be entirely suitable, depending on the product selected and your goals.

The important distinction is that 0.7ml of a premium formulation and 1ml of another formulation are not necessarily equivalent treatments.

More millilitres doesn't automatically mean a better result.

The most valuable treatment is the one that best suits your anatomy and desired outcome.

4. Why I Encourage Clients to Look Beyond the Price

Let's think about that additional £30.

If you spread £30 across twelve months, it's equivalent to just £2.50 per month.

Of course, this doesn't mean your treatment is guaranteed to last twelve months.

It's simply a way of putting the additional investment into perspective.

When the difference in price is relatively small, it may be worth considering whether the alternative formulation offers advantages that matter to you.

Perhaps you value its particular gel properties.

Perhaps you're looking for subtle refinement rather than maximum volume.

Or perhaps you're interested in a product with manufacturer information supporting a longer expected duration.

There is no reason to pay extra for something you don't need.

But equally, there's no reason to dismiss a premium option without understanding what makes it different.

Sometimes a little more investment upfront can offer greater personal value — provided the product is suitable for you.

5. Does More Filler Mean Longer-Lasting Results?

Not necessarily.

This is a common misconception.

It's easy to assume that 1ml must be better than 0.7ml because you're receiving more product.

But the quantity alone doesn't determine how long the cosmetic result will remain visible.

Different products have different formulations, and the way they're selected and placed matters.

For some clients, 0.7ml may provide an appropriate subtle enhancement.

For others, a different volume or treatment approach may be needed.

Adding more filler purely in the hope of making a treatment last longer is not necessarily appropriate and may increase the risk of unwanted fullness or other complications.

I always prefer to assess the natural lip shape, tissue characteristics and the result the client hopes to achieve before recommending a quantity.

The goal is not to use the greatest amount of filler. It's to use the appropriate product and amount for the individual.

6. What If I Want My Results to Last as Long as Possible?

If longevity is particularly important to you, tell your practitioner during your consultation.

It is a perfectly reasonable priority.

We can discuss products with different formulations, their expected duration, available supporting evidence and whether they're suitable for your goals.

However, longevity should never be considered in isolation.

A longer-lasting filler isn't necessarily the best choice if its characteristics are inappropriate for the area being treated.

And sometimes a result that is more subtle and natural-looking may be preferable to one that simply adds more volume.

It's also important to remember that filler doesn't necessarily disappear completely when its visible effect becomes less noticeable.

Some hyaluronic acid filler can remain within the tissues longer than expected.

This is why additional treatments should be based on assessment rather than automatically booked at fixed intervals.

7. Don't You Deserve a Premium Approach?

I believe everyone deserves to feel confident about the treatments they choose.

For me, a premium approach isn't simply about selecting the most expensive product.

It's about understanding the individual, using appropriately selected formulations and making thoughtful clinical decisions.

It's about taking time to explain the differences between treatment options rather than simply recommending the same product to everyone.

And it's about helping clients understand that a small difference in price may represent a worthwhile investment when there are meaningful benefits for their particular needs.

You deserve to know what you're paying for, why a product has been recommended and what you can realistically expect.

That's what I believe premium aesthetic care should mean.

8. My Approach at Aesthetic Boutique Exeter

As an NMC Registered Nurse with over 30 years of nursing experience and additional training in aesthetic medicine, I place great importance on individual assessment, patient safety and informed decisions.

I offer different dermal filler options because I understand that clients have different budgets, priorities and aesthetic goals.

Some prefer a more affordable treatment.

Others are happy to invest a little more in a particular premium formulation.

Neither choice is wrong.

My role is to explain the available options, recommend what is clinically appropriate and help you understand the differences.

I will never promise that one treatment will last a specific number of months.

But I will explain what we know about the products, their characteristics and their expected performance.

And most importantly, I will always aim to recommend a treatment that suits you — rather than simply choosing a product based on price.

Final Thoughts: Think About Value, Not Just Volume

When you ask, "How long will my treatment last?", the answer involves more than one factor.

Your individual biology matters.

Your treatment area matters.

Your practitioner's assessment and technique matter.

And the product selected matters too.

Sometimes a more affordable formulation may meet your needs perfectly.

Sometimes a premium product may offer characteristics or expected benefits that justify a little extra investment.

With options such as 1ml lip enhancement at £140 and Teoxane RHA Kiss 0.7ml at £170, the difference is just £30.

The important question isn't simply which syringe contains more product.

It's which option is most appropriate for the result you want.

Don't you deserve a treatment chosen for your individual needs, rather than simply the lowest price or largest quantity?

At Aesthetic Boutique, I believe you do.

Because beautiful results begin with informed decisions, personalised care and choosing the right product for the right person.
